Earlier this year actress Janina Gavankar burst onto the music scene with a haunting reworking of "Love Lockdown" that sprang forth from a very personal place. "That came at a very dark moment in my life – I was going through the breakup of a serious five year relationship. I made and produced 'Love Lockdown' pretty much for emotional survival," she tells PopWrap.
That reignited her passion for producing music and Janina has returned to the studio for a second track that couldn't be more different. "'Kali Ma' is completely left of 'Love Lockdown' in sound. It's an in your face club banger that's about realizing how powerful you are and that you are in complete control of your surroundings."
Janina gave PopWrap an exclusive first listen to the Downlink produced track, which might make you think she's a little bit of an audio schitzo. "I'm a musician, the beauty of that is I can do whatever the f*** I want," Janina laughs. "If I want to go make waltzes tomorrow, I will." And we'll listen!
